Is your child struggling with reading or math?
Do you believe your child is an underachiever?
We can help!
Mesilla Valley Education Enhancement Center offers one-on-one and
small group tutoring to students in the Mesilla Valley from Las Cruces to El Paso. Tutoring services are provided from kindergarten
through college.
Many tutors provide instruction in specific content areas or "help with homework". Mesilla Valley EEC recognizes that a student may be having difficulties because of additional factors. The EEC method provides much more than subject tutoring:
- Evaluation and individualized growth plans
- Learning to think and problem solve
- Developing self esteem through the attainment of skills
- Organization skills
- Learning to focus and stay on task
- Increasing vocabulary and receptive language skills
- "Automaticity" for number facts and decoding word skills
- Higher level comprehension skills
"Our daughter, J., struggled in school. Homework was always a crying session and we felt very defeated. J.’s self esteem was our biggest concern; she felt stupid and just didn’t really fit in.
We met Carol Pouy when J. was 10 years old. Carol made an evaluation and began to work on J’s self esteem first. Within two months our girl was a different child. She had confidence and a good self-esteem for the first time. Carol gave J. a good foundation to start off her academic development.
Carol put together a very careful individual program for J. that would target her specific learning needs. Parent involvement is a key; without it, J. couldn’t grow. I, too, was made a partner in her learning development. J. began to experience success in her learning. What I could see is that with the renewed sense of self-esteem, J. could face the challenges ahead and was able to work out her difficulties.
I have often called Carol the “Mother Theresa” of differently learning children. She really has a gift to see the whole child and can implement a program that lasts a lifetime. I am so very thankful that she came into our lives. Our J. is 18 now and still confident and looking forward to her future."

"Mrs. Carol Pouy, in my eyes, is a savior. When my son was in first grade he was already very behind in school. As the months passed by he was getting more and more frustrated. He was nervous and would cry when he had to go to school. As a mother, I felt helpless. I didn’t know how to help him or teach him. I myself became very frustrated and at times would cry myself.
A co-worker told me about Mrs. Pouy’s services and she started tutoring him. My son has a learning disability and is still behind in school, but he has made leaps and bounds from where he started. If it weren’t for Mrs. Pouy I don’t know what would have happened with my son. He now has confidence he never had before. He is even on his high school’s football and track teams and continues to make progress. I would greatly recommend Mrs. Pouy to anyone who needs help or just wants to get ahead."

"My tutoring experience has been really great. Through the years, before I was tutored, I had a lot of difficulties with my reading and my hand and eye coordination. It was really hard for me to comprehend the materials I was studying in school. With the tutoring that I have been getting I am able to have a positive and better understanding of school and now college."
